How to choose earmuffs for the workplace:
Protective, anti-noise earmuffs provide protection for the operator from harmful noise by reducing the volume level measured in decibels by the value of the SNR parameter. The upper limit for an 8-hour workday has been set at 85 dB. If the average loudness measurements in the workplace exceed this value, then you should get ear muffs with a SNR parameter that will allow you to lower the noise level to 85 dB and less. Assuming that we will work all the time wearing earmuffs with an SNR parameter of 32 while being in a work environment with a noise level of 116 dB, then we will reduce the noise to 84 dB.
If the wearing time of the earmuffs by the operator is longer than several minutes, then it is worth paying more attention to the design elements that improve the comfort of wearing them. Adequately wide sealing pads made of skin-friendly materials should accommodate the user's entire auricle. Soft padding on the headband will relieve pressure at the top of the head. On the other hand, the strength with which the earcups adhere to the head has an impact not only on comfort, but also on the effectiveness of damping, so for continuous operation it is worth choosing earcups with not necessarily the highest available, but properly selected SNR parameter.
