How to choose earmuffs for the workplace:

Protective earmuffs provide protection for the operator from harmful noise by reducing the sound level measured in decibels by the value of the SNR parameter. The upper limit for an 8-hour workday has been set at 85 dB. If the average noise measurements in the workplace exceed this value, then earmuffs with an SNR parameter that allows the noise level to be reduced to 85 dB or less should be used. Assuming that we will work all the time in earmuffs with an SNR of 32 in an environment with a noise intensity of 116 dB, we will reduce the noise to 84 dB.

If the operator wears earmuffs for longer than a few minutes, it is worth paying more attention to the design elements that improve their comfort. Appropriately wide sealing ear cushions made of skin-friendly materials should accommodate the entire user's ear. Soft headband padding will reduce pressure on the top of the head. The force with which the earmuffs fit the head affects not only comfort but also damping effectiveness, so for continuous work, it is worth choosing earmuffs with not necessarily the highest available, but appropriately selected SNR parameter.
